The Good, the Bad, and the Buffet

Tonight at church, we are having a special pre 4th of the July covered dish dinner. A member of our church is a Major in the Marines and he is going to speak to everyone about his time in Iraq and the price of freedom.

The covered dish dinner, also called a pot luck here in the South, can be dangerous and very tricky. There are literally hundreds of dishes to choose from. 18 varieties of mac and cheese, 10 buckets of KFC, and more greanbean cassaroles than you can shake a stick at. The problem is which mac and cheese to choose, becuase you only get one chance then you have to move along in the line.

The dessert table is overflowing with cakes and browines but I have eaten so much food I only had room to eat so of my buddy's wife's bread pudding. With the exception of a bad deviled egg I managed to walk away unscathed.

OK, I am the buddy's wife that made the bread pudding. Now..I don't normally "toot my own horn" but, "Toot, Toot!" the bread pudding was awesome. There, I said it. Also, the buffett was great. There were, however, one or two dishes that remain unidentified. I guess there's at least one on every buffett line. You know the ones; they sit there but don't get eaten. We shall call there's "the story of the unknown covered dish".
