Blackberry's Intel Powered Beauty

Research in Motion has unveiled a BlackBerry e-mail device that runs on the Intel XScale processor. The BlackBerry 8700c (codenamed Electron) utilises Intel's PXA901 cellular processor, which is named Hermon.

Cingular Wireless will start shipping the device to customers starting Nov. 21. It will cost $299 with a two-year plan. Cingular, a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth will be the only wireless carrier offering the device in the United States for a "period of months," according to RIM co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie.

The device comes equipped with a 320x240 pixel resolution 65k color TFT LCD screen, Bluetooth, quad band, 64MB of flash memory and 16MB SRAM. It features a full QWERTY keyboard and will send and receive voice and data using EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) wireless networks.
